All That Was Solid (For Greece)
2011 - 2015

An intervention in several volumes of an art historical text that charts the development of archaic, classical and late classical Greek sculpture. Photographic reproductions of Greek sculptures from John Boardman’s comprehensive survey are painted over with matte acrylic paint, cut out and rearranged on paper sheets that measure the same as the pages from the original book.

For the exhibition “All Beneath the Moon Decays”, curated by Rui Amaral at Daniel Faria Gallery in Toronto, the printed introduction to the first volume became the source material for a cut-up poem, which reflects on the historical fascination with this past – and its relationship to the origins of western civilization - which is increasingly seen through the lens of Greece’s recent economic collapse.
